Imprints
Imprints aims to break down the very essence of percussion music and put it back together in about 60 minutes. When we say that something sounds percussive, usually we mean that it is a short sound. It is true that percussionists work very hard to create the illusion of sustain since the majority of our instruments make short sounds. This fundamental characteristic of percussion is in some ways related to slow shutter speed photography often featuring elongated cars with blurred lights on a busy highway: One image captures several short moments in time. We have entitled our project “IMPRINTS” because slow shutter speed blurring moving objects made us think about how every movement or development in history leaves a footprint and becomes a legacy in the long run. We are aiming to explore the history of percussion from conventional styles to pieces that use technology and extended techniques.
