About Sammy
Sammy DeAngelis is a contemporary classical percussionist currently based in Rochester, NY.
As an educator, he is Adjunct Professor of Percussion at Roberts Wesleyan University where he teaches private lessons and directs the Roberts Wesleyan Percussion Ensemble. In addition to this position, he is also a private lessons instructor at the Eastman Community Music School where he teaches students ranging from ages 9-67 years old and is a mentor for the New Horizons Symphonic Band. Sammy is also a coach for the Eastman Chamber Percussion Ensemble at the Eastman School of Music.
As a performer, Sammy is a founding member of the percussion trio, 3D Percussion, who contributes to a number of new music collaborations and consortiums and performs across the United States at universities and local art venues. 3D Percussion has commissioned ten composers in the last two years and has given twelve performances across the country. These performances have taken him to play venues such as the Percussive Arts Society International Convention in Indianapolis, Constellation in Chicago, universities such as Furman University, Ball State University, Radford University, and more! He has also played in the US and China with the Eastman Percussion Ensemble and premiered works by composers such as Michael Burritt, Matt Curlee, and Grammy award-winning artist, Billy Childs.. Sammy has also performed with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes, Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra, and Gulf Coast Sinfonia.
Sammy holds a bachelor’s degree in percussion performance from Florida State University (2021), a master’s degree in percussion performance and literature from Eastman School of Music (2023) and is currently a candidate for the doctorate of musical arts degree at Eastman School of Music. He will graduate in May of 2026. His primary teachers include Michael Burritt, Dr. John Parks, Mark Hodges, Rich Thompson, Kyle Peters and Chip Ross.
