About Sammy

Dr. Sammy DeAngelis is a contemporary classical percussionist based in Rochester, NY.

As an educator, he is Adjunct Professor of Percussion at Roberts Wesleyan University where he teaches private lessons and directs the Roberts Wesleyan Percussion Ensemble. He maintains a private studio in the Rochester area as well as online. Dr. DeAngelis has previously taught at the Eastman Community Music School and the Roberts Wesleyan Community Music School.

As a performer, Sammy is a founding member of the percussion trio, 3D Percussion, who contributes to a number of new music collaborations and consortiums and performs across the United States at universities and local art venues. 3D Percussion has commissioned 12 composers in the last three years and has given numerous performances across the country. These performances have taken him to play venues such as the Percussive Arts Society International Convention in Indianapolis, Constellation in Chicago, universities such as Furman University, Ball State University, Radford University, and more! He has also played in the US and China with the Eastman Percussion Ensemble and premiered works by composers such as Michael Burritt, Matt Curlee, and Grammy award-winning artist, Billy Childs.. Sammy has also performed with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes, Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra, and Gulf Coast Sinfonia. 

Sammy holds a Bachelors of Music in Percussion Performance from Florida State University (2021), a Masters in Music in Percussion Performance and Literature from the Eastman School of Music (2023) and a Doctorate of Musical Arts from the Eastman School of Music (2026). His primary teachers include Michael Burritt, Dr. John Parks, Mark Hodges, Rich Thompson, Kyle Peters and Chip Ross.
